In the first chapter of Mathew, at the very start of the synoptic Gospels we are confronted with 17 verses worth of names. And it is so easy to skip past these names , and in doing so we would miss out on forty two generations of Gods marvellous working and also we miss out on seeing how each of these individuals were used by God in order to point towards the coming Messiah.
All these verses are in the Bible for a reason as we have it being in 2 Timothy 3 verse 16 :
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,”
We can take a look at twelve of the people found in these verses , but rather looking at the life of these people we can instead look at their names …
